In recent years, the State-owned Guiyang Public Transport Co has adjusted its management, routes and vehicle allocation to improve public transport services while reducing operating costs.

By the end of 2025, low-efficiency operating mileage had fallen by 19 percent and operating costs by 17 percent compared with the end of 2020. The company ranked second nationwide in annual number of passengers per bus and third in number of passengers per 100 kilometers.

The company adjusts routes and vehicles based on passenger demand, reallocating some buses from the city center to townships, newly developed residential areas and industrial zones. It has also launched 49 short-distance loop routes to make local travel more convenient.

Special routes have been introduced for farmers, tourists and students. In 2025, special routes serving farmers recorded about 1.24 million passenger trips, while more than 500 school routes recorded about 1.68 million passenger trips.

The company also uses data on passenger flow to adjust bus schedules and vehicle deployment. In 2025, the number of complaints received fell 14 percent year on year. It has also expanded into autonomous driving, EV charging and leasing space at bus facilities to diversify its revenue sources. These measures have helped reduce operating costs by about 500 million yuan ($74.48 million) a year.
