A 50,000-mu (3,333 hectares) vegetable supply base jointly built by Guiyang city and Luodian county is now entering successive harvest seasons, delivering fresh produce such as tomatoes, eggplants, and chili peppers to dining tables across Guiyang.

Since the two sides launched their cooperation in 2023, the base has filled the winter and spring vegetable supply gap in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, while also injecting strong momentum into rural vitalization.

To support the project, Guiyang has invested a total of 20.35 million yuan ($2.93 million), while Luodian county has contributed 10 million yuan. The funds have been used for infrastructure upgrades, production material subsidies, and technical services. To date, the base has supplied 94,600 metric tons of vegetables to Guiyang and Gui'an.

Leading enterprises, including State-owned Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group, have signed guaranteed purchase agreements with local farmers, set up designated procurement points at major wholesale markets in Guiyang, and opened dedicated counters in 15 large supermarkets.

"Signing purchase contracts before planting was something we never dared to imagine before," said Wang Changji, a large-scale grower from Longping township, Luodian. This year, Wang signed orders covering 168 mu of farmland, with an expected output value exceeding 1.2 million yuan. "Now we can focus on growing vegetables without worrying about sales."

So far, the 50,000-mu supply base has generated a total output value of 337 million yuan, benefiting about 17,800 farming households. Average income from vegetable planting has exceeded 19,000 yuan per household.
