State-owned Guiyang Public Transport Co has been accelerating the modernization of the city's public transit system since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–25).
Over the past five years, the company has launched a total of 841 customized transit routes, covering a wide range of scenarios including schools, residential communities, enterprises, hospitals and tourist destinations. More than 50 regular bus routes have been newly opened, over 300 routes optimized or adjusted, and more than 200 bus stops added. In addition, over 40 micro-circulation bus routes have been introduced to better connect with rail transit stations.
The company has also rolled out bus services for residents of villages located far away from urban areas. Route No 252 has helped address travel and produce-transport challenges for more than 4,000 villagers commuting to urban areas to sell their vegetables.
By collecting and responding to passenger feedback through livestreams, the company has processed thousands of suggestions, with passenger satisfaction consistently remaining above 96 percent.
Over the past five years, the company has continued to advance the development of a "smart bus" system. By integrating internet-based and other data sources, the company analyzes the spatial and temporal travel patterns of passengers and bus ridership, and adjusts route length, operating mileage and passenger capacity accordingly, ensuring that public transport services better meet residents' travel needs.
"Now, I can see exactly when a bus will arrive at the nearest stop and plan my departure time more precisely by checking routes on the Mobile Bus application," said a resident surnamed Zhang.
