Guiyang upgrades regional railway services to ease commuting pressure

english.guiyang.gov.cn|Updated: 2025-07-15

On July 1, Guiyang upgraded its regional railway operations to improve commuting efficiency and reduce travel costs for residents. The number of commuter-friendly trains during peak hours has increased to 16 per day, with average wait times shortened to around 20 minutes.

This move comes in response to the public transit demand surge following the cancellation of toll exemptions on Guiyang's ring expressway. To mitigate the resulting pressure on cross-district travel, State-owned Guiyang Public Transport Investment and Operation Group Co, in collaboration with Guiyang Urban Railway Co and China Railway Chengdu Group Co's Guiyang Railway Station, jointly implemented the optimized railway plan.

As urban development accelerates, Guanshanhu and Huaxi districts and Gui'an New Area are witnessing a sharp rise in inter-district commuter traffic. The updated timetable now includes five morning peak trains (7:00–9:00 am) and eleven evening peak trains (5:30–7:30 pm) between Guiyang North Railway Station and Huaxi University Town Station. Departure times have also been fine-tuned, cutting the average waiting time to 20 minutes and significantly improving travel efficiency.

To further benefit daily commuters, the city has introduced time-based and train-specific discount policies on the regional rail loop. During peak hours, select services will offer 20 percent to 40 percent discounts on fares, easing financial pressure on frequent travelers.

Residents can use platforms such as the "Yiying Qianxing" app to access real-time information and plan seamless transfers between metro, bus, and regional rail services.
