Sun Lin, chairman of State-owned Guiyang Public Transport Co – based in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – said in a recent interview that his organization was committed to building a public transport system that met the needs of the people, achieving high-quality development.
Through reforms such as restructuring the bus network and optimizing its routes, the company is said to have significantly improved the efficiency of its resource utilization and operational management, driving its sustainable development forward.
"As of now, the company has reduced the number of operating vehicles by 20 percent and cut 40 percent of inefficient routes, while continuously expanding service coverage to new urban areas, resulting in increased passenger flow," Sun said.
The company has established 31 high-frequency backbone bus routes, providing reliable and stable public transport services to 65 percent of the city's residents.
To create what it calls an "open public transport" system and to integrate its services into the lives of citizens, Guiyang Public Transport Co regularly communicates with communities, industrial parks and campuses in order to conduct customized needs assessments.
These reviews cover residents' travel habits, times, purposes and preferred routes and stops, allowing for tailored transport solutions.
As a result, the company has launched 301 dedicated school routes to provide bus services for students and opened 113 customized commuter buses to address the transport needs of government agencies, businesses and industrial parks.
