Guizhou Haike Industrial Development Co, a subsidiary of State-owned Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group, has been celebrating a bountiful harvest at its 1,200-mu (80 hectares) organic rosa roxburghii planting base in Qingshan township, Xifeng county, Guiyang city.
Since mid-August, the base has been harvesting rosa roxburghii, a process expected to continue until mid-October. This year, the base aims to harvest 1,000 metric tons of fresh fruit, produce 500 tons of juice, and have an estimated output value of 6 million yuan ($851,636).
Rosa roxburghii, or chestnut rose, is a wild fruit native to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It is rich in vitamin C and other essential nutrients and offers significant medicinal and nutritional benefits. Organic rosa roxburghii farming follows natural growing practices, minimizing chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This helps preserve the local ecosystem and provides healthier and safer food options for consumers.
The cultivation of organic rosa roxburghii has optimized the local agricultural structure and contributed to rural economic growth by offering new income-generating opportunities for local farmers.
To ensure product quality, freshly picked rosa roxburghii fruits are transported from the base to Guizhou Haike's production workshop within an hour for immediate juicing, maximizing the retention of nutrients and flavor.
The company operates four production lines – solid drinks, tablet candies, substitute teas, and fruit and vegetable juices – ensuring the efficient processing of rosa roxburghii juices, beverages, and health products. In 2023, the company upgraded its production automation, significantly boosting its capacity to produce rosa roxburghii-based products.
"Rosa roxburghii products are increasingly popular among consumers, and this year, we will continue to develop and launch more beverages from this fruit," said Zhang Liping, executive deputy general manager of Haike. Today, the company's rosa roxburghii products are sold across China.
