At State-owned Guizhou Tyre Co's 5G fully connected factory, the AI defect detection system examines the internal structure of tires using X-ray images, and is capable of identifying quality issues in about two seconds.
"In the past, manual inspection was required, where workers had to compare key areas and sometimes refer to data for comparison. It was labor-intensive and time-consuming," said Jiang Dakun, deputy general manager of Guizhou Tyre Co. "Now, quality inspection and the entire tire production process is controlled by intelligent systems."
A survey of the entire factory reveals a host of integrated flexible robotic arms and other smart devices. Materials like steel wires, rubber, and nylon enter the production line, producing a tire bead in approximately 25 seconds.
"In 2019, during the factory's planning phase, we were aiming for intelligent construction, customizing production lines based on our needs," Jiang explained.
In February 2021, the factory passed inspection and began production. It boasts full 5G network coverage and uses automatic guided vehicles to transport goods. Production data from every process and product is collected in real-time by the Intelligent Manufacturing Execution System (MES), significantly enhancing production efficiency.
Since 2022, Guizhou Tyre has continuously introduced new automated equipment, extensively integrating 5G and the internet of things and progressively moving towards unmanned and minimally manned workshop management.
Every year from 2021 to 2023, Guizhou Tyre achieved revenue and profit growth. Its products are exported to over 130 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, and South Africa, with annual exports accounting for approximately 30 percent of total sales. The quality and sophistication of its products continue to improve.
