In the lush vineyard of Hongfenghu town in Qingzhen city, Guiyang, staff members were carefully selecting the finest large-grain muscat grapes on Aug 16.
This vineyard is a demonstration fruit industrial park implemented by Guizhou Hongfenghu Livestock and Poultry and Aquatic Co, a subsidiary of State-owned Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group. The vineyard was set up in 2018 with a planting area of 100 mu (6.7 hectares).
Last year, the grape variety produced a small quantity of fruit. It has been harvested and sold in markets since Aug 3 of this year.
"So far, this year's grape harvest has reached over 2,500 kilograms. It is estimated that the annual yield of 1,000 kilograms per mu and the output value of 40,000 yuan ($5,489) per mu," said Yang Bochun, vice director of production department of Guizhou Hongfenghu Livestock and Poultry and Aquatic Co.
The company cooperated with the Guizhou Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Guiyang Xingtianyuan Agriculture Co. The company received technical services from two units which oversaw grape variety selection, planting, and management.
"In 2018, our company's technicians and two units of experts chose to cultivate large-grain muscat grapes after conducting trial plantings of several grape varieties. Compared to the crystal grapes traditionally grown in Qingzhen, the large-grain muscat grape has a more rose flavor, higher sweetness, more moisture, and fuller grain," Yang said.
Next, combined with the beautiful environment of Hongfenghu town and local grape industry clusters, sightseeing and picking vineyards are set to be built here to promote the integrated development of agriculture, culture, and tourism.
