Construction ramps up on high-speed extension project

Hundreds of workers were recently ramping up construction of an important section of the Yongle Tunnel, located in the city of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

This is the extension project for Guiyang-Huangping Expressway, which is an 8-kilometer line being presided over by Guiyang Urban Development & Investment Co.

"It is a key project in Southwest China's Guizhou province," explained Zhang Shaofeng, manager of the project's second division.

"It is of great significance to accelerate the construction of the central Guizhou economic zone, support the process of regional industrialization and new urbanization, promote the mutual integration of Guiyang's surrounding areas and central urban areas, as well as to construct the Guiyang metropolitan economic circle," Zhang added.

The central Guizhou economic zone includes all of Guiyang and part of Zunyi, Bijie and Anshun cities, as well as Qiandongnan and Qiannan prefectures.

The 742-meter-long Migangjing Bridge is located in the secondary water source protection zone and needs to cross the Yudongxia Reservoir, which is understood to be difficult to construct and has high environmental protection requirements.

"For each difficulty, the project department of the company will develop a comprehensive solution," Zhang said.

Satisfactory progress is being made at present with earthwork excavations, bridge engineering of the pile foundations, construction of the pier column, tunnel excavation and support and other processes.
