State-owned company disposes of hazardous waste

Guizhou Huaneng Coking Gas Co, a subsidiary of the State-owned Guiyang Industrial and Commercial Investment Group, has recently completed the disposal of desulfurization waste liquid.

The company is a public welfare municipal gas company established by Southwest China's Guizhou province to provide gas to Guiyang. The company has supplied gas to residents and merchants in Guiyang since the beginning of 1994 and stopped production with the complete elimination of natural gas in the city in 2015.

For more than 20 years, Huaneng Coking has contributed to the use of clean energy in Guiyang and helped Guiyang rid itself of the nickname "Acid Rain City". However, after the company stopped production, the toxic and hazardous desulfurization waste liquid left over from the coke oven gas desulfurization process could not be treated according to the original production process.

The municipal government and the municipal State-owned assets supervision and administration commission attach great importance to the safe disposal and temporary storage of desulfurization waste liquid. At the end of last year, Guiyang Industrial and Commercial Investment Group fully started disposing of them.

Under the guidance of experts, Huaneng Coking officially started the loading and transportation of desulfurization waste liquid on March 15 this year. So far, a total of 2,612.71 metric tons of desulfurization waste liquid has been transferred and disposed of, and the disposal task has been successfully completed.
