Guiyang State-owned enterprise strengthens seed breeding

Guizhou Modern Seed Industry Group Co – a State-owned enterprise located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province established on June 29 last year – has built a modern seedling system with an annual seedling production capacity of 460 million plants.

The enterprise integrates resources related to vegetable seed breeding in the province and has built two leading domestic modern seed breeding centers in Nanmudu town and Nanjiang township of Guiyang and six branch centers in Qingzhen and other places.

There are about 1,400 square meters of improved seed breeding laboratories and 15,000 sq m of intensive vegetable seedling cultivation greenhouses – all equipped with high-end seedling equipment. Each room is spacious and bright, and two to three staff members can manage more than 4,000 sq m of nursery area. There is also a comprehensive seedling raising system, and the number of seedlings in a single crop can reach 6 to 7 million.

The Guiyang Vegetable Breeding Center is a key project of the enterprise. It is a research and development, production, and display base for vegetable seedlings which was been transformed and put into use at the end of March 2021.

In the past year, the center's 15,000-sq-m intensive vegetable seedling cultivation greenhouse has produced more than 25.7 million vegetable seedlings such as cabbage, pepper, and tomato.

In addition, the enterprise has also achieved strong results in PIC breeding pigs, fish, fruit, and edible fungi, enhancing the independent innovation ability, overall competitiveness and agricultural modernization leadership of the city's seed industry.
