Vegetable base benefits residents, farmers

Through the use of modern planting facilities, the vegetable industry in Guiyang has been continuously improved in terms of both quality and efficiency, and the self-sufficiency and supply capacity of Guiyang Vegetable Basket Group Co has been improved, greatly benefiting residents and farmers.

The enterprise – a first-level subsidiary of the State-owned Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group – was established in December 2015 and is a provincial-level agricultural leading enterprise integrating production, supply and service.

"Take screw peppers as an example, before the base's vegetables were listed, screw peppers mostly came from Fujian, Shandong, Hainan and other places, and the price was about 7 yuan ($1.05) per kilogram. Now a large number of local screw peppers are on the market, and the price is about 5 yuan per kilogram," said Zha Wang, deputy general manager of the enterprise.

The base has also driven the large-scale development of the province's 500,000-mu ($33,333 hectares) vegetable base. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the satisfaction rate of Guiyang residents with the "vegetable basket" project has increased from 89.77 percent in 2018 to 97.9 percent now.

"By 2025, through the construction and operation of 25,000 mu of high-standard vegetable supply bases and remote vegetable bases in Guiyang, we will strive to achieve a total annual vegetable output of 200,000 metric tons," Zha added.
